Dark Age Wars is an online browser based Real Time Strategy game that functions on the traditional RTS gameplay formula and combines it with an interactive and well designed game world to form one of the best and most addictive MMORTS games that you’ll find.
Dark Age Wars starts out with a beginner tutorial that helps you get your empire started off from the ground up. The tutorial consists of basic tasks like creating simple buildings and harvesting resources such as wood and stone. The tutorial of the game can be skipped entirely with a simple click of a button but it is recommended that all users go through it as it perfectly explains the entirety of the gameplay in Dark Age Wars.
There isn’t necessarily any kind of plot attached to Dark Age Wars, at the start of the game you’re simply told that you are to rebuild your entire empire and turn it into a flourishing kingdom that will be feared by everyone and that’s just about it since you’re thrust into the game directly afterwards so there’s not really any kind of emphasis on some kind of plot.
It’s no surprise that MMORTS games can be extremely difficult early on and can be quite unforgiving especially to the new players. One great thing about Dark Age Wars is that when you start the game off as a new player, you’re given a shield that lasts for 5 days. This shield basically prevents other players from ravaging through your newly started off empire and allows you an ample amount of time to build up your structures and defenses to hold off any attacks that might occur later on.
The gameplay of Dark Age Wars as mentioned before is classic RTS gameplay and there are simply no complaints about it. You’re allocated some land where you can build your barracks, towers, defensive structures, lumber camps and a solid variety of other structures. You form an army through your barracks and use it to attack other players while boosting up your own defenses by upgrading your own structures. Basically it’s the cookie-cutter RTS formula that has functioned so well even after all this time.
One small issue with Dark Age Wars is that it goes completely classical, even with the graphics. The medieval art style and environments with lackluster details might not appeal to everyone but luckily the graphical flaws are quickly overshadowed by the addictive gameplay.
Dark Age Wars also has a premium shop where you can purchase ‘premium’ content using gold that is acquired by paying for it with real world money. Luckily, you’ll also be able to get gold by performing other specified tasks within the game so you won’t have to worry about paying players having advantages over non-paying players.
