MMOs have definitely come quite far ever since their early days. MMOs nowadays, whether they’re RPGs, Shooters or something else entirely, tend to keep getting better and better with every subsequent release. 2021 in particular is seeming like it’s going to be a great year for these games as a whole as some pretty spectacular games are scheduled for release during it. In this article, we’ve picked out the five games that we think are going to be the best that 2021 has to offer so, without further ado, let us get right into the specifics.

1: New World



New World is a game that’s been making waves and turning heads ever since its name first surfaced. One of the key reasons behind the game’s hype is the fact that Amazon is the company behind it and, given their resources, it wouldn’t be unfair to expect a truly revolutionary game that may end up defining the genre for years to come. The game seems to follow the fundamentals that have been laid out by various fantasy and medieval MMORPGs over the years and, from what we’ve seen, there’s quite a lot of depth to the gameplay experience as a whole and we’re definitely excited to see the game develop moving forward. The game was originally going to be released in 2020 but was delayed and is now scheduled for an early 2021 release so we’re not far from being able to play it finally.

2: Starbase



Second half 2021 Starbase is a game that’s showing quite a lot of potential as it features a universe that’s supposed to be infinitely expanding and this, along with its creative sci-fi setting, has already laid the building blocks for what could be a revolutionary game. Alongside its unique setting, the game also seems to have every single genre-defining feature that one would expect from a high-end MMO so this one is certainly one to watch for. It’s important to highlight, though, that it’s slated for a release in the second half of 2021 so it’ll still be a while before we can get our hands on it.


3: Exomecha



Exomecha is a game that seems like it’s perfect for all the shooter fans out there. This is an MMOFPS that’s targeting all the competitive audiences with its fast-paced gameplay, vast variety of modes and the addition of giant mechs that can actually charge into battle. There’s no set window of release for the game but it’s going to come out some time next year and we’re definitely excited to see what it has to offer.

4: Zenith



There’s no set window for Zenith’s release but it’s scheduled to come out next year and this is perhaps one of the most exciting games to look forward to as it’s actually a VR-based MMO so there’s quite a lot of potential. Zenith is a game that’s aiming to provide players everything that’s so great about MMORPGs and it plans to do so via virtual reality so it goes without saying that we are quite hyped to see it finally be released.

5: Ashes of Creation



Ashes of Creation is a game that’s been receiving quite a lot of traction for the past few years since its announcement. All the attention is definitely deserved, though, as this is a game that essentially seems like it plans to be the ‘perfect’ MMORPG consisting of every single thing that one could want out of the experience. There’s no set window of release yet but it’s scheduled for a 2020 release and we are definitely looking forward to it.

Overall, there are definitely loads of great MMOs to watch for in 2021 but the aforementioned games are those that we feel truly manage to stand out from the crowd.
