There’s something very challenging about tower defense games. You’d have to keep the enemy from getting past your defenses, or else you’re defeated. To do this, you’ll have to make full use of all the tools that are under your command.

It requires a bit of strategy, and the cunning required in action games. You could consider tower defense games as the culmination of your real-time strategy and action gaming experience. You’ll definitely put your acquired skills from those games to good use in TD games.

Now that’s out of the way, it’s time to talk about what games should you play. On top of the list is the amazing MMO/TD game Grimoire: Manastorm.

Okay, for starters, let’s talk about the plot. In this game, you play the role of an elemental mage belonging to the clan of the Validus. You’ve been left as a last form of defense against hordes of skeletons, ogres and other monsters that are intent on breaching the door of a cathedral where the survivors of the undead outbreak are sheltered.

A large contingent of Validus are coming over the horizon, but they are still too far to be of any help. You’d have to hold for 10 minutes until they arrive, fighting off wave after wave of the undead and keeping them from breaching the door. The monsters just get stronger with each wave, so you will have to keep changing your tactics to be more effective against them.

At first glance, Grimoire: Manastorm looks and feels like any other first-person shooter. Instead of a gun, however, you have magic spells at your disposal. However, it’s when you start playing your game that you realize that you’re actually playing a Tower Defense game. Perhaps when you’re suddenly defeated and your HP is still 100, you’d realize that the undead have managed to breach your defenses.

What makes this game challenging, aside from the need to keep the undead away, is that you have to keep moving constantly in order to keep your HP refilled. The faster you run, the faster you heal. However you must take care not to run too far from the cathedral or else the monsters will find their way in.

All you really have to do is just try to survive until the timer reaches zero, and you’re fine. However, that’s easier said than done. After all, you’ve got skeletons, golems and zombies coming for you from all directions, and you have to survive them as well as keep any stragglers from reaching the church... Until help arrives.
