With the mobile market oversaturated with MMORPGs, it would be easy to say that people are getting sick of the genre. I mean, there are a lot of options, and the endless loop of trying new ones and abandoning it after a few hours isn’t exactly the most productive way to play, right? Thankfully, Linekong developed Daybreak Legends: Origin, and yes, it is a game you’ll certainly spend a lot of hours on. It’s an attractive MMORPG, enticing you with console-level graphics that will definitely keep you entertained for hours. However, is it worth continuing after a few hours? Let’s find out:

Daybreak Legends: Origin starts out with the character creation screen wherein you can pick from four classes. These include the Bounty Hunter, Mage, Warrior, and Puppeteer. Unfortunately, the classes are gender-locked, so you will be forced to become a male Warrior and Mage and lady Puppeteer and Bounty Hunter. Note that each class has its own set of skills and techniques, so the gameplay experience will be pretty varied for each class. Customization options are limited, with only three preset eye and hair combinations available. And yes, everybody who has the same class as your character looks the same which is pretty awful.

After successfully creating your character, the game brings you to a cutscene. Without diving deep into spoilers, it’s a classic tale of betrayal and thirst for power. This results into your character dropping into the earthly realm, with a sudden case of amnesia. The story isn’t something that would win a Nobel Prize in literature, but it works for an MMORPG and is worth seeing through the end. In this part, you will also be taught movement and attacks, considering that you’ll be fighting a boss right away.

Once that this over, you’ll be brought to town and will get to interact with a few of the characters. The tutorial immediately starts, teaching you the basics of navigating through the multitude of menus available in-game. You’ll be oriented with how to equip armor. Everything is streamlined and intuitive, thanks to half of the game being rather automated.

Daybreak Legends: Origin’s battle mechanics are pretty decent, and the same can be said about its community. While running around Fork Town, you’ll get to see other players and interact with them through the chat box. The battles meanwhile are standard for any MMO. You can move around with a virtual joystick on the left side of the screen and access the attack buttons on the bottom right corner. When you reach a certain level, you can join guilds and participate in raids and other events.

Another element that stands out in Daybreak Legends: Origin, is its impressive visuals. The game looks like it was made for consoles instead of a mobile device. Unfortunately, this can work against its favor if you’re using an older device. Framerate drops are common, especially during battles and at times when you activate skills. Although the OST is fairly-decent, the voice acting is amateurish. The performances are uninspired, and the lines felt forced instead of natural. There are also localization problems: misspelled words and horrendously-constructed sentences are pretty common.

Overall, Daybreak Legends: Origin is an RPG that tries its hardest to lure you in with attractive graphics, and yes, it succeeds. Its gameplay and battle mechanics are pretty decent at best, making it a standard MMORPG whose only asset that stands out are its visuals. Nevertheless, the gameplay hours you’ll spend will be worth it….as long as your device can handle the graphical load. Daybreak Legends: Origin Summary
