Today’s tank shooters for mobile platforms have their fun factors and their caveats. The top complaints are usually one or more of these. It can either be too wacky or too casual (like in Tank Stars), with too arcade-y action (like in World of Tanks Blitz), or have too high a learning curve for the average mobile player (like in War Thunder Mobile).
Tank Company is the compromise you can get out of the few tank battle multiplayer games. Let’s look into the hows and whys of NetEase’s multiplayer cannon mayhem and see if this is the game you may be looking for.
Let’s start with what you’d be grasping at when you get the game running. You have a choice of 3 input modes to play. There’s the default touchscreen, followed by an external controller, and lastly, the option of the PC experience by using a mouse and keyboard. Touch controls are what you’d get from typical action games. There’s the movement pad, two fire buttons, and functions for changing ammunition type, entering aim mode, and enlarging the mini-map. You can map controller buttons and keys to your liking. Familiarizing yourself with button presses is easier if you’ve been playing other action games before.
There are 3 game modes. There are the basic 15-on-15 random matches. Other PvP games will tell you that these are starting grounds for how good you are as a player on teams that don’t behave cohesively, most of the time. This has more action than WoT Blitz’s 6v6 battles while losing the complexity of War Thunder Mobile’s combined arms gameplay. Ranked Battles is another mode, where casual players shed their goofy gameplay moments, work a little more seriously with their stats, and climb their way to the top seasonal bracket. The group-on-group supremacy bid takes the form of Clan Battles. For those who like organized gameplay or simply talking to clanmates during a battle, this is the tactical choice for you.
Tank Company is a simplified form of PC tank games, especially the original World of Tanks. Tank development follows a tech tree, where you get the choose which line of tanks you prefer to claim the top tank of the line. Tanks are divided into four classes. There are light tanks that serve as scouts or finish off weakened opponents. Medium tanks are mobile units with punchy guns. At Tier III, heavy tanks serve as either the spearhead or the shield of the team. Long-ranged Artillery units stay far from the battle lines while damaging enemies with long-ranged cannons.
There are currently 8 tiers of vehicles to work on each line. The starting tiers I and II are tanks that players will have to go through to unlock vehicles they actually want to play. As an example, a Soviet heavy tank player will have to grind using a Tier I light tank and a Tier 2 medium tank to get to the first heavy tank in the line.
Tech trees equate to grinding for experience points, which are earned after matches. A percentage of these points is converted to Free EXP, which can be used to unlock modules or the next tank.
On other gameplay aspects, there are consumable items for boosting cash and EXP earnings, repairing mid-battle, and boosting crew efficiency training. Crews can acquire skills to enhance their capabilities. There is a wide selection of camouflage patterns and other aesthetic items you can personalize a favorite tank with. Some are earned through in-game events, while others require in-app purchases to be unlocked.
Tank Company is a pocket game with quite the time investment to enjoy. Tank Company Summary
