Shards of War is a really exciting MOBA games that aims to completely change up the core dynamic of the MOBA genre by making the games a lot more fast paced than they normally are in MOBA games and it definitely succeeds as the games in Shards of War end much quicker and there’s definitely a lot more action condensed into the matches.
Starting off in a MOBA game can be quite a difficult task given that these games have rather steep learning curves but Shards of War does an excellent job of taking care of this with the really well designed tutorial that takes players into a demo game and explains all the key controls and mechanics of the game. It’s a really great way of easing new players into the game and certainly makes the learning curve a lot easier than it normally is.
The gameplay itself of Shards of War is significantly different from most traditional MOBA games because it’s a lot faster. While most other games of this genre start of slow with a laning phase and such, Shards of War takes you straight into the action where fights can break out at pretty much any second no matter how long into the game you are.
Due to this pace of the game, the matches are generally a quite a bit shorter but at the same time have a lot more action in them. Characters are referred to as Sentinels in the game and there are tons of different Sentinels available in the game with unique skills. Sentinels are of three main types which are either Tanks, Attack or Support so players can pick those that fit their play-style the most.
Teamwork is extremely key in a MOBA game and that is true for Shards of War as well. Pretty much every single thing you do in this game directly impacts your team so taking objectives is really high priority. The same case applies to fights as well because a team is at its peak effectiveness when players are able to chain their skills and abilities properly as follow-up to those of their teammates.
Going into the visual aspects, the game looks absolutely stunning. It has a bit of a post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting that looks quite incredible. The map of the game looks absolutely stellar and the animations are a sight to behold. Alongside all this, the Sentinels have some really cool and interesting designs are quite delightful to watch in action. Overall, Shards of War looks brilliant no matter how you look at it.
Micro-transactions have been a part of pretty much all online games nowadays and that’s true for this game as well. You’ll be able to buy in-game gold with real world money that can be used to buy skins from the cash shop. Skins are basically visual overhauls of sentinels that give them a bit of extra visual flare.
